【School Trip to Hawaii】
Day5
This morning we continued our Intensive English Course at Kapi'olani Community College. We started out our lesson with some pronunciation practice. In particular we focused on "v", "r", and "l". After that we did an activity related to asking follow-up questions. This is a useful skill to more easily have a long conversation. Next we worked on fixing incorrect English sentences. We worked as groups to find the answers. Today we learned that we are going to have a presentation on Friday, our final day! We will talk about our memorable experiences here in Hawaii. It is going to be hard but we can do it! Finally, in the last part of class we worked on "small talk". Here in Hawaii, so many people just talk to you when you are around town. This practice got us ready for those times.
After our English lesson, we had a lecture from a representative of Malama Maunalua. She talked about the different ways her organization was working to restore coral in the Maunalua Bay. We learned so much about coral, such as how it gets its color and the different types of coral. We could also clearly understand the causes of coral bleaching. We even brainstormed solutions to these problems. It was interesting to see the differences between coral issues in Japan and those in Hawaii.
After this we were supposed to go to a beach clean activity with Aloha Ocean Plus at Waimanalo Beach but the road was suddenly closed! We were sad that we could not learn more about microplastics. Although we had to wait in the car a long time, students kept a positive attitude. What great kids!
